DELE Spanish Diplomas

DELE Exams

Imagen de un examen DELE

These are official diplomas, with no expiration, that certify a person’s level of proficiency in Spanish, regardless of where and how they learned it.

The DELE Spanish diplomas are granted by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, and Sports of Spain, and to obtain them, the candidate must pass the DELE exam at the desired level.

The DELE exams are graded as PASS/FAIL, and the various tests are designed to assess a person's overall communicative competence in Spanish (reading, writing, comprehension, and speaking).

Levels and Exam Models

Exams for Adults

There are six exam levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2. These levels are established by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and are the same for all languages of the European Union.

Before registering, we recommend reviewing original exam models to help determine which level is best for you.

Exams for Schoolchildren

For school-aged children, between 11 and 18 years, the Instituto Cervantes has adapted the tests to situations and communicative contexts appropriate for these ages, creating two exams: A1 for school and A2/B1 for school.

For more detailed information on the parts and structure of the exam for each level, as well as its duration, consult the Instituto Cervantes Exam Site.
